Flag Football is a sport, and tournaments create a more competitive environment for the athlete whose nature is to achieve the highest status (be the number one team), or to measure personal performance (whether it be team, or individual for social fun or competitiveness) . Another purpose to rank teams on every level, is to help organize the sport which is still in it's early stages of development. Using IWFFA tournaments in order to rank teams, uses one set of rules, which allows the method or ability to rank teams viable and fair. However, we admit, that by appointing any certain system, it may become vunerable to unfairness and turn out not to be the best system to use. We have made changes through the years and are always open to comments. Our goal is allow teams to see how they perform against all the other teams around the world and in their own countries. For year 2002, we adopted a system which was suggested by the Canadians, who thought it more fair to allow teams the ability to accrue points during competition in many tournaments, rather than offering teams a greater number of points in larger tournaments (like the Key West, Kelly McGillis Classic). You can read from our past tournament rankings (which started in 1999) how we decided to rank teams. But for this year we use a more even system that allows competing teams to show a poor performance in one tournament, then get the opportunity to perform well in other tournaments and stay in the competition for top team. Also, we no longer have split each tournament into categories that would separate your team's tournament points. Instead, once a team has registered under a category in a tournament, they keep that division to be ranked until end of year, regardless of an tournaments level of skill. |
